In 1960, Dick and Jennifer Sankey took on one of the South East’s most beautiful village pubs, transforming The George & Dragon into the beating heart of Speldhurst.
Renowned for its exceptional food, warm hospitality and lively atmosphere, it became much more than a village pub. It was where the Sankeys story began.
Following Jennifer’s passing in the mid-1990s, the family made the difficult decision to hand the pub over to Brakspear.
But some places never really leave you.
In 2025, almost 30 years later, The George & Dragon came home to the Sankey family, beginning a new chapter in a very special story.

BREAKFAST
There's something rather special about a leisurely breakfast in a beautiful village pub.
From a hearty Full English with our famous Speldhurst sausages to fluffy American pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs and lighter favourites, our weekend breakfast menu has something for everyone.
Bring the family, bring the dog, settle in with a great coffee and let us take care of the rest.
Served every Saturday & Sunday, 9.30am to 11.30am.
SUNDAY ROASTS
There's nothing quite like a proper Sunday roast in a beautiful country pub.
Think perfectly roasted meats, golden roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, rich gravy and all the trimmings, prepared with care and served with a warm Sankeys welcome.
